A Melbourne mum has created a clever Kmart nappy bag hack, transforming a $9 clutch bag into a stylish bag for nappy wipes.
Mother of two Cara Buchanan was inspired to hack the blush pink bag because she couldn’t find a wipes holder she liked.
“I just thought, why not make one, and off I went to Kmart to try and find a [bargain] bag that would work,” she explained.
Cara glued the dispenser from a packet of wipes to the front of the bag. Then she used a blade to cut an opening in it
“I ran a lighter around the edges to stop any fraying,” she explained.
The multi-tasking bag features a pocket for nappy disposal bags at the front.
“I’m really happy with the result,” said Cara. “It’s practical and looks fabulous. I like things to co-ordinate and also have a bit of glam.”
The hack caused a stir on social media, accruing more than 2.1K ‘likes’ on the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook page.
“The reaction from other mums has been really positive! Everyone wanted to know how to make it,” she said.
One mum offered Cara money to make her one.
“I think as mums [we] sometimes we get stuck with boring practical items such as wipes, nappies, prams etc,” Cara said. “So, if someone can make these [things] a little bit glam and exciting, what’s not to love?”
Cara was surprised by how many likes and responses she had from the Facebook post.
“This is hands down [the] best thing [I’ve] seen on this page,” one mum wrote on the Facebook page.
“Genius!” wrote another.
