It’s no secret that cleaning Venetian blinds is time-consuming and tedious.

Even more frustrating is having to reach and clean the dust and dirt from in between each slat. It’s no wonder they’re often neglected.
Thankfully, a handy product will make cleaning your blinds a breeze: the AIFUDA Blinds Cleaner and Duster.
Don’t be put off by its appearance; the convenient tong shape means this brush can successfully clean the top and bottom of two blinds together, meaning your blinds will be cleaned in half the time.
The brush is delivered with five washable and reusable microfiber sleeves that can be used wet or dry.
And it has some pretty positive reviews to back up its claims.
“This little contraption makes cleaning the blinds so much easier and effective. I like that it comes with a few easy to swap cloths, so if one gets too dirty I pop on a new one. I throw them in with my normal kitchen towel load of laundry with no issues,” wrote one reviewer.
Another added: “Really wasn’t sure if this was going to work. I’ve used something similar many years ago. It works remarkably well! Cleans top and bottom of the blinds, is easy to use with some cleaner. Definitely a game-changer. I’ve already cleaned three sets of blinds since I got these today. Bravo!”
The best way to clean Venetian blinds
Now that you have that trick up your sleeve, here’s how to clean your horizontal blinds.
- Remove loose dust. The first step is to remove any surface dust from your blinds. You can do this with a vacuum or a microfibre cloth, like the one mentioned above.
- Clean each blind. Now it’s time to deep-clean each blind to remove more stubborn dust and dirt. Fill a bucket of warm water and add a squirt of detergent or another cleaning solution of your choice. Dip your cloth or window blind cleaner into the solution, removing excess water. Starting at the top and working your way down, gently wipe each slat to remove built-up grime.
- Repeat with water. Once your blinds are clean, you can repeat the process with plain water to remove any soap residue.
- Wipe. Lastly, wipe down your blinds with a dry cloth to ensure no extra moisture is left behind. The last thing you want is for mould to start growing.
Can I take Venetian blinds down to clean?
Although not recommended by professionals, many people have had success taking their Venetian blinds down, cleaning them with a hose, and putting them back up again.
This method might work if your blinds are made from aluminium or vinyl. Just be careful not to bend or break your blinds in the process.
As for Venetian blinds made from wood or faux wood, spraying them with lots of water could cause warping, discolouration, and even mould growth in these materials.
