How to get perfectly applied concealer in 7 steps

Looking tired? Here’s how to make those telltale signs disappear!

The under-eye area is a common telltale indicator of tiredness, but it’s also an area where concealer can become your best friend. Concealers are the go-to for covering dark circles, blemishes and redness, and a fabulous way to a fresher look.

Gone are the days of thick, heavy concealer. Embrace today’s light concealers packed with rich ingredients to even out discolouration or pigmented patches, and reduce redness around your nose. Just a few dots will have your face looking instantly brighter, toned and blemish free. Follow these guidelines to make sure you’re getting the most out of this little gem.

1. Moisturising is a must!

Always – especially on dry and mature skin – apply a moisturiser before makeup. The addition of an eye cream in your skincare routine will hydrate the under-eye area, and help make way for creaseless concealer.

2. Less is more

The role of concealer is to subtly even out your skin tone. Use a minimal amount and build cover if you need more. Going for full coverage can exaggerate dry and mature skin. So opt for a non-mattifying, liquid concealer for a more natural look.

3. Apply concealer after foundation

Keep your concealer in place all day by applying a hydrating foundation such as BeautyBlender’s new Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation infused with hyaluronic acid to keep your skin plump. Then, use concealer in the areas you need a little more coverage.

4. Go lighter than your skin tone

For a naturally highlighted look, purchase a concealer that is about one shade lighter than your skin tone. An easy way to find your perfect shade is to match a concealer to the area between your nose and the apples of your cheeks. Do not go more than two shade lighter.

5. Check the ingredients

It’s not only skincare that has great ingredients, some concealers also have antioxidants and vitamins which help hydrate and smooth the skin.

6. Apply in small dots

Less is definitely more when it comes to concealer. Distribute subtly by placing dots over areas of discolouration and blend in gently. Don’t drag or smear your concealer, use your fingertip to tap and blend evenly over your foundation or tinted moisturiser.

7. Try a colour corrector for better coverage

If you’re not getting the results you were hoping, consider using colour correctors for some extra help. A little goes a long way, so remember to apply sparingly before your concealer and foundation. With practise, you’ll be fresh faced and blemish-free in no time! Follow the guide below to choose what corrector will serve you best.
