7 vodka beauty hacks for hair and skin

What a versatile substance.

An alcoholic spirit hailing from Russia, it turns out that Vodka could be the bi-carb soda of the beauty world, nixing all your beauty woes as quickly as bi-carb soda cleans your oven.

According to Bustle, vodka was invented in 1503 by Kremlin monks who used it as a topical antiseptic and cure-all drink. Although these days, you will find it being served with lime or mixed with raspberry at the local watering hole.

However, these vodka beauty hacks have to be tried to be believed.

1. Keep your razor clean and rust free

For those of us, men and women, who use a razor for shaving, leaving it to soak in a glass of vodka after use can keep it free from bacteria buildup and rust.

2. Clear up problem skin

If you’re struggling to clear up clogged and break-out prone skin, a quick swipe of vodka on a cotton wool ball on the problem areas once a day can clear your face up.

3. Deep clean your hair

Vodka is thought to have disinfectant properties that remove product build up from hair and reduce dandruff. Add a splash to your usual shampoo, and follow it with a good conditioner. However, using vodka more than once a week on coloured hair can result in parched tresses.

4. Use it as a mouth wash

Thanks to the liquids antiseptic qualities, vodka can be used as an mouthwash, or to simply flush away bad smells from a garlic-rich lunch.

5. Sanitise your hands

Most commercial hand sanitising gels use alcohol to kill germs and bacteria, so it makes sens that your trusty bottle of vodka can stand in when you’ve run out. In a small bottle, fill it one-quarter of the way with vodka, add 10 drops of each tea trea and lavender oil, and fill the rest of the way with aloe vera gel.

6. Nix smelly feet

A strange yet sneaky hack for stinky feet, give them a wipe over with a vodka-wet cloth and like magic, the smell is gone! If your foot woes require a little more work, soaking them in a half/half mixture of warm water and vodka for 5 minutes can reduce the amount of bacteria and fungus on your feet.

7. Not a beauty hack… but

Vodka is also an excellent cure all at home. If you have furniture, shoes or carpets that seem to be harbouring unpleasant smells, mix up and half/half solution of vodka and water then mist it over the areas in questions, allow to dry in open, fresh air.
