Storing beauty products in the bathroom makes total sense, as it’s most likely the room you’ll be applying them in.
But it turns out, some products might be better suited to the temperature found in your fridge.
“There are actually a couple of great reasons as to why products should be stored in the refrigerator,” New York City-based dermatologist Dendy Engelman, M.D told Women’s Health.
“The temperature is stable, so it doesn’t go through extreme heat or cold, which may affect the formulation or alter the consistency of the product.”
Natural products
Beauty products contain preservatives to prevent bacteria, however, any natural products without preservatives should be put in the fridge after opening.
Active ingredients
Products with active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, peptides, and hydroquinone should be stored in cool temperatures.
Eye cream
Keeping eye cream in the fridge will not only preserve the ingredients, but the cool temperature will also help to reduce puffiness around the eyes.
Moisturiser
Keeping your moisturiser in the fridge will have a calming effect on anyone who is prone to red skin.
Facial Mists
Spraying a cool, fresh facial mist on your skin can help soothe dry or inflamed skin.
