Commenters loved this video, with many saying they were keen to try it themselves.

“I did this, and I am so happy with my turnout,” wrote one person.

Another asked how long it takes for the dust to appear again.

“It depends on your home, but the coconut oil helps coat the furniture to prevent dust from settling in the future,” replied Mila.

If you want to skip the coconut oil, other anti-dust recipes replace it with olive oil.

Others wanted to know what essential oils Mila uses. For anyone else wanting to know, it’s ECO. modern essentials

Another savvy fan wanted to know if the coconut oil will clog the spray bottle. Mila replied: “I make this for use, I don’t keep it mixed for long. Just melt it until soft for use.”

Other ways to repel dust

While it is not possible to completely repel dust, there are some things you can do to minimise how much ends up on your furniture:

  1. Use doormats: Place doormats at the entrances of your home to trap dust and dirt from shoes before they enter.
  2. Seal gaps and cracks: Dust can enter your home through small openings around windows, doors, and other areas. Seal these gaps using weatherstripping or caulking to minimise the entry of dust particles.
  3. Use air purifiers: Air purifiers with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters can help capture airborne dust particles and help reduce their presence in your home.
  4. Regular cleaning routine: Dust surfaces, vacuum carpets, and mop floors regularly to remove dust particles. Using microfiber cloths and dusters can help capture dust more effectively. If this sounds overwhelming, try the FlyLady cleaning method
  5. Wash bedding frequently: Bedding can accumulate dust, dead skin cells, and allergens. Wash your doona, sheets, pillowcases, and blankets regularly to reduce the amount of dust in your bedroom.

Remember that while the above tips can reduce dust bunnies, it is impossible to eliminate dust from your home completely. That said, using a dust-repellent spray like the one above help repel dust off surfaces and onto the floor, so you won’t need to dust your furniture as much.
