Next time you’re looking for style inspiration, take a look at Melbourne fashion studio Coat the Label. The independent brand produces merino-wool garments designed for long and lean models: sighthounds.
Defined as a breed of hunting dogs that hunt primarily for sight and speed, the most commonly known sighthounds are greyhounds and whippets.
“Clothing for whippets is essential due to their short coats and low body fat,” Thomas told Broadsheet. “They need to be warm and comfortable whether they’re outside or in. Finding this flexibility in a dog garment was difficult, especially one that was minimal, classic and understated.”
Designed and made in Melbourne, the capsule collection comprises of a sleek turtleneck garment available in a range of three neutral shades. An additional fashion shade – such as olive green – is released each season.
Priced at $79 (plus shipping), the cosy outerwear is available in small, medium and large sizes.
“I’m keeping it within the sighthound family, as it is very difficult to find garments designed specifically for them with their unique body types,” Thomas says.
“Greyhounds, thankfully, are becoming household pets [and] rescue rates are increasing, so they are definitely something I want to create for as soon as possible.”
