Kmart‘s new Christmas range has arrived. While the retail giant is going all-in on a “pink and fig” colour palette across the range, it was the humble tinsel decorations that really caught our eye. Revamped as playful Christmas tree pom-pom ornaments, they’re a fun update on a classic decoration.
Pink and fig may be the stars of this year’s collection, but shoppers who prefer a more traditional Christmas look will also find plenty of classic greens, rich reds and pearly neutrals throughout the range.
Whether you’re planning a full tree refresh or just looking for a few affordable updates, these are the pieces we think are worth buying. Jump to our what to buy and what to skip list
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- This year’s Kmart Christmas range is a pink-lovers dream, with decorations in every shade
- Kmart is focusing on the trending colour combo of light and dark pinks in a colour palette they are calling “pink and fig”
- The Kmart fig colour is more of a burgundy red than the dark purple often associated with figs
- Our tip is to go heavier on the fig and then use the pale pink as an accent colour
- Too much pale pink, especially in the form of often shiny Christmas decorations, can feel overly sweet

Kmart have chosen a trending colour combo for Christmas 2026
Dark rich purple and burgundy colours, inspired by the sweet edible fruit of the fig tree, have been trending upwards this year. There has been a move away from flat, cool neutrals towards deep fig tones, which can act as a luxurious or moody base (similar to oxblood, plum, or eggplant) for softer and lighter accent colours.
Pairing deep fig paint, colourful rugs, or upholstery with delicate, dusty, or plaster-toned pinks balances the dark, dramatic colour with warmth and light.
The “pink and fig” trend leans heavily into rich textures, like velvet, to deepen the sensory impact of the palette. Kmart’s Christmas collection is also richly textured, from sparkly tinsel and iridescent baubles to matte flocking on decorations and bows.
There is a careful art to matching, or even clashing, pink tones, so choosing the right selection of decorations, from dark to light, needs to be carefully considered to pull off a successful festive scheme for your holiday season.

What we’d buy from the new Kmart Christmas range
Fig Printed Baubles, $12 (9 pack)
These elegant striped and patterned baubles introduce the pink and fig colour combo in one neat and classy decoration.
These colourful tinsel decorations feel like a fresh take on a glittery classic. Add instant festive sparkle to your Christmas tree, making it easy to create a cheerful holiday display in minutes.
Another innovative take on tinsel, this sparkly bauble has a 3D tinsel texture – a fresh nod to a retro Christmas decoration. Available in red and pink.
Pink and Fig Decorations, $8 (10 pack)
We especially like the fig decorations in this pack, with the hero bauble that looks like some kind of spinning top. With their dark burgundy fig colour, these would provide a seductive glint from the green depths of a classic Christmas tree (see the product shot of this selection at the top of this list).
What we’d skip
Rather than commit to a seasonal bedding set that you might only have on the bed for a few weeks of the year, we think a decorative pattern like this is better suited to homewares, like this festive tablecloth.
This puffy-bowed garland in tones of flocked red might suit some tastes. However, we think crafty decorators could create a similar homemade version themselves using a basic wreath and velvet ribbon.
A pale pink tree isn’t for everyone, and could prove to be a trendy choice that ages more quickly than classic styles. There’s certainly some appeal to this sugary confection, but we’re going for a more traditional vibe this year. For us, nothing beats the smell of a real Christmas tree.
What our expert says
Better Homes & Gardens interiors stylist Nonci Nyoni says pairing darker tones with lighter accents, particularly colours like pink and fig, is becoming increasingly popular in interiors. However, getting the balance right is key.
“You don’t want to split your colour palette 50-50. Instead, choose one hero colour for your scheme and then lift it with carefully placed accents in lighter shades,” says Nonci.
“Pink is always a popular choice, and there are so many beautiful shades to work with. However when it comes to sugary pastel pinks, too much can quickly start to feel overly ‘cutesy’ or even a little cheap.”
“Pink and fig is a fun, on-trend colour combination to try with your Christmas decorating. To keep the look feeling sophisticated, my tip is to stick with matte-finish baubles and decorations, using metallic and glossy accents sparingly.”
