Bunnings sausage sizzle is set to become more expensive

For a great reason!

Bunnings will increase the price of a popular item at its sausage sizzle – but before you huff in outrage, know that it’s for a good reason.

How much does a Bunnings sausage sizzle cost?

In July last year, the iconic snag sandwich jumped from $2.50 to $3.50 to accommodate for the rising cost of sausage sizzle supplies, which was making it hard for fundraisers to make a profit.

Now it’s time for the ridiculously cheap can of soft drink to increase from $1.50 to $2.

“The change responds to calls from local community groups, not-for-profits and charities that have seen a decline in funds raised due to the increased cost of the goods required to run the barbecue,” Bunnings said in a pricing update on its website.

The price increase took effect from February 1, 2024.

The reaction to the price increase has been met with mostly positively comments on social media and in the Better Homes and Gardens community with many saying they are happy to pay extra for a snag and cold drink at Bunnings.

Small price increase. Still reasonable I think,” said one commenter on Facebook about the can of drink price.

Another said: “Well, when you think about it, the price of food has gone up so [charities] wouldn’t make any money if they didn’t raise the prices. If you don’t like the price, there’s an easy solution: it’s called buy the ingredients and make your own. Invite a few friends over for a barbecue. [It’s] much nicer when surrounded by those you love and care about, anyway.”

“$5.50 is worth it for charity,” wrote another.

What is a Bunnings sausage sizzle?

The Bunnings sausage sizzle is a classic Australian tradition, that has been running for over 25 years. It serves as a vital fundraising event for grassroots organisations to continue to support their community, with 100 per cent of profits going to the organisation.

Bunnings will supply the barbecue, gazebo, tables, free mobile payment facilities, safety items and cleaning supplies. The organisation brings the rest.

Not-for-profit groups can easily book a sizzle with their nearby Bunnings store, bringing along volunteers and necessary supplies while Bunnings assists with logistics. More information can be found on the Bunnings website
