When nature calls, there’s nothing worse than having to use a public toilet where the hygiene is questionable and the decor less than delightful. However, one business in New South Wales has taken their public toilet to the next level, ensuring not only their facility is clean and functional, but stylish, too.

Now in it’s fourth year, the Best Bathroom Competition is sponsored by Initial and conducted by Total Facilities, Australia’s largest facilities management exhibitors. For 2018, the women’s toilets at Merrylands RSL Club in Western Sydney was named the Best Bathroom in Australia for 2018.

Each year, the Best Bathroom competition is open to public bathrooms in spaces such as commercial buildings, shopping centres, hotels or recreational grounds, but they have to go above and beyond in terms of design and hygiene.

“We evaluate bathrooms on design, innovation, aesthetics and products and services that improve wellbeing for everyone,” explains Total Facilities’ Andrew Lawson. “This competition profiles some of the most progressive organisations which are at the forefront of bathroom experiences.”

The bathroom has been described as a five-star quality luxury bathroom by Total Facilities, and to prevent the risk of slips or falls, the business had timed flow taps and installed and paper towel dispensers located directly next to the basins to prevent splashes.

The ladies’ loo features include seven private cubicles with their very own basins, accessories and stylish accessories with metallic bronze feature tiles.

Custom-made mirrors and and luxe lighting compete the over-all design.

“The female cubicles in particular provide ample space where our customers can hang their coat and bag, put their phone down and comfortably use the area,” says Steve Brady, Facilities Manager Merrylands RSL. “The location and design of this space means it’s dry and feels clean when you enter.”

“Just like any business, you can’t have bad or dated decor or the place looking tired otherwise people won’t come to your venue.”
