Storage space in any kitchen comes at a premium. You never seem to have enough! If you can’t see any extra space when you open your cupboards, you might actually be looking right past it – the back of the doors! Here’s some great ideas on how you can use your kitchen doors to store more.

Narrow plywood boxes are perfect for small bottles, packets and sachets. They’ll also keep your pantry tidier. Store often used items here and you won’t have to go searching for them either. To fix to the door, attach the boxes to a panel painted the same colour as the door. Screw through this into the door making sure your screws are not too long.

For an instant storage solution that’s also flexible, pick up a length of slotted shelving strip and screw that to the back of the door. There’s a range of baskets that slot into the strip so you can pick the one that suits your needs. The best thing is you can move the baskets around to suit what you want to store.

Keep your kitchen tools, like your measuring cups and spoons, close at hand with a shadow board on the back of a door. Take a sheet of plywood or MDF and paint it with chalkboard paint. Screw in as many hooks as you need then screw the board to the back of the door. Hang up your tools and draw around them with chalk.

A sheet of pegboard becomes a multi-purpose centre for all your kitchen knick-knacks. With a set of hooks and baskets you can keep a whole range of things tidy. Shopping lists, shopper dockets and those other things that you can never seem to find when you need them. Double up with a panel below covered in chalkboard paint for reminders or fine art.
