Here’s how
STEP 1 To make the back, measure and mark the width of your iPad on the 235mm pine and cut with a handsaw.
STEP 2 To make the shelf, measure and mark the 40 x 8mm pine to be the same width as the back, then cut using the mitre box and handsaw.
STEP 3 To make the hole for the charger, mark 80mm from the right side of the shelf and 15mm from the front, then use the drill with a #10 drill bit to make the hole.
STEP 4 Glue the shelf to the back then pull tape tightly around the sides to hold it as it dries, making sure the tape runs along the top edge to prevent paint spills.
STEP 5 Stir the chalkboard paint and apply a thick coat, brushing from top to bottom and leaving to dry for two hours. Apply a second coat, brushing from side to side, leave it to dry then remove the tape.
STEP 6 On the 12mm square pine, measure the legs to be the same length as the sides and cut using the mitre box and handsaw.
STEP 7 Use a sanding block to smooth around the edges of the dock and sand the ends of the legs to remove the corners and round them over.
STEP 8 Centre a leg on the side of the dock, measure 10mm from the end then use a #3 drill bit to make a hole right through the leg, into the side.
STEP 9 Change the drill bit to insert a screw, making sure it’s flush and tight, then repeat to attach the leg on the other side of the dock
STEP 10 Position the dock by adjusting the legs, plug in your iPad and write your shopping list.
