Known for its vibrant and bold colours, if you’re a lover of prints and all things interior design you would’ve heard of this Finnish lifestyle design company. Does the famous Innuka print ring a bell? For Marimekko fans, it’s been a long time coming as this collection was originally teased back in May 2022. Now, nearly a year later, BASTUA is ready.

If you’re a fan of the cult Finnish design house you’ll be aware that after adding a few items to your cart, you would have easily spent over $100. But the collaboration has unveiled a $2.50 carrier bag – an absolute steal, especially when normally a Marimekko tote would set you back around $46.
What’s in a name? Titled BASTUA, the name comes from the expression for sauna in Småland, the province where IKEA was founded.
The limited-edition collection consists of 26 products for the home, ranging from furniture, glassware, and textiles.
Not to be confused with Monstera deliciosa or Calathea, the collection includes rhubarb leaf motifs (that sometimes grow next to sauna buildings in Finland) and other patterns reflective of nature. It’s the first time that Marimekko has designed a set of prints exclusively for a brand collaboration.
Our favourite piece from the collection would have to be the $20 leaf tray, which we predict will sell out fast. But if you do miss it, there’s also a kimono, bag and shower curtain in the print.
“The collaboration encapsulates the sensations of endless summers and the simple and aesthetic beauty of Nordic nature in furniture and accessories for the home,” says Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA.
“Capturing the essence of Marimekko’s Finnish roots and its connection to the historic origins of sauna culture was a fundamental part of the design journey and the creation of the BASTUA prints,” says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko.
The collection consists of furniture, cushions, towels and the first-ever sauna bucket.
The collection will be available worldwide, including IKEA Australia. The collection drops online at 9pm at ikea.com.au.
