Your entrance not only gives your guests the first impression of your home, but it’s also what you walk into every day after work or school pick-up. So make it a welcoming space with punches of personality.
Inspired by Dulux’s 2018 Colour Trends, we makeover an entry hall with not one, but three different looks. Here’s how to get the looks:
Look 1: Essential
This space is all about creating a warm, soft look that has a contemporary and fresh feeling.
To recreate, start by painting the main feature wall with a rustic brown tone. A colour like Dulux ‘Clay Court’ will make your space seem open and inviting whilst also adding a touch of sophistication to the final look.
Next, paint the remaining walls with a contrasting white like Dulux ‘Terrace White’. This calming, neutral colour will give your hallway a stylish finish.
Finally, paint the inside surface of your front door with Dulux Aquanamel Low Gloss in the Dulux colour ‘Dieskau’. The new low gloss finish is designed to more closely match Wash&Wear matt, so perfect for this project’s interior doors, trims and around the windows.
Tips:
- The colours were chosen from the Dulux 2018 Colour Trends ‘Essential’ Palette. The good thing about using a palette is that you can feel confident that all of the colours will work well together.
- Placing a table at the end of the hallway makes it look wider than it is.
Look 2: Kinship
Looking for a bit more colour? This hallway has a calm and positive feel with an eclectic mix of tones and textures.
To create this look, use a soft mid-base colour like Dulux ‘Maiko’ across the two connecting walls. Make the third wall a key feature by painting with a cool colour like Dulux ‘Rusky’.
Decorate the space with eclectic op shop finds and treasures collected from around the world to give your area some personality. Adorn the walls with antique knick-knacks and add some greenery to give your hallway an earthy look.
Tips:
- ‘Live’ with your colour before you paint by adhering a sample pot to your wall so you can live with it for a few days. Take note of your colour at different times of day and with different lighting. Order your sample pot online via the Dulux website.
- While a swing can’t be used for its traditional purpose in a hallway, it’s a quirky addition that provides a perch for putting on shoes.
Look 3: Escapade
This is a playful space packed with character and bright colours. It’s perfect for a busy family with young children.
To make a statement, use a bold colour to brighten up the space instantly. We featured Dulux ‘Bondi’ on one sidewall, leaving the grooves white to give it a pinstripe look, which makes the room appear taller.
Next, compliment the bold feature wall with a softer colour on the back wall and ceiling. A cool minty green like Dulux ‘Soft Fresco’ will give the space a relaxing coastal feeling.
To add a pop a colour, try painting some of your accessories with a contrasting colour like Dulux ‘Bombay Pink’.
Complete the look with a set of ten-pin-bowls at the end of the hallway. A decorative element that is also lots of fun on a rainy day.
Tips:
- Don’t risk tinting your favourite colours with other paint brands. Only Dulux pigments mixed into Dulux Wash&Wear and Dulux Weathershield are designed to create the Dulux iconic colours shown here every time.
- The hallway tends to be a dumping ground for young families. Baskets are handy for stashing things when you first walk in the door, and hooks are great for bags and coats.
