In an Australian first, Woolworths now stocks vegan mince.
As of yesterday, the supermarket heavy hitter launched Funk Fields 100% Plant Based Mince to stores nationwide.
The new product release comes in quick succession to their recent announcement to phase out the sale and use of plastic, further affirming the conglomerate’s effort to offer consumers greener grocery options.
According to Funky Fields, “it takes 15,000 litres of water and about 12kg of grain to produce just one kilo of beef”. Opting for plant-based meat alternatives is an excellent way to minimise the impact that the meat industry has on our environment.
In addition to the environmental benefits, there are many convincing health benefits to including vegetarian meals in your routine.
Digital content manager for Women’s Health, Men’s Health and founder of Banish, Lottie Dalziel confirms that “studies have revealed that those who reduce their intake (and still eat meat sometimes) lower their risk of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.”
“A great way to start to introduce this into your diet is MeatFreeMonday a global initiative by Paul and Stella McCartney which encourages people to say no to meat for one day of the week.”
