All you need is a saucepan, stove, measuring cup and metal fork.

Method:

  1. Measure out your rice using a measuring cup.
  2. Rinse the water a few times in cold water until it’s close to running clear.
  3. Fill a medium saucepan with 1.5 cups of water and add the rice. Bring it to a simmer.
  4. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover it with the saucepan’s lid.
  5. Let the rice cook for 13 minutes or until it absorbs all the water.
  6. With the lid still on, let the rice rest for 10 minutes. This is the secret trick that allows the rice to steam and become nice and fluffy.
  7. Once ready, remove the lid, fluff it with a metal fork and serve.

Should I cook rice in a pot with lid on or off?

It’s best practice to cook your rice with the lid on. Similarly to a rice cooker, this helps trap the heat at a consistent temperature, allowing the rice to cook evenly all the way through.
