A $10 cup from Big W just saved me from buying a bulky slushie machine — and it actually works.
Big W’s $10 slushie cup delivers
Slushie machines are having a moment right now, but here’s the thing: they’re big, expensive, and most of us don’t have counter space for another appliance.
Enter the frozen slushie cup — a $10 solution from Big W that turns any drink into a slushie in about two minutes, no machine required.
I bought one on a whim, sceptical it would actually work. Spoiler: it does, and I wish I’d discovered it sooner.
My verdict: 10/10
This cup has one job — turn my son’s orange juice into a slushie — and it does exactly that, without requiring a giant machine we absolutely don’t have space for.
How I tested it
I ended up giving this product a full 10/10 because it has one job (turn my son’s orange juice into a slushie) and it does exactly that, without me having to buy a giant machine we absolutely do not have space for.
I bought this slushee cup on a whim and didn’t think much of it. We unboxed it, tossed it in the freezer, and promptly forgot about it. This actually worked in our favour because the colder the cup, the better it works.
Once we remembered it was in there, we decided to give it a go. I poured some orange juice into the cup and started the slushie-making process, gently squeezing the sides together and trying not to spill it. There was a moment when I thought to myself, “Oh no, this isn’t going to work. I’m going to end up making an emergency 7/11 Slurpee run to avoid a meltdown.”
But I kept going. And sure enough, tiny little icicles started forming in the drink. Breathing a sigh of relief, I kept squishing. And within a few minutes, the orange juice had fully transformed into a proper slushie. And honestly, I wish I’d known this product existed sooner.
Pros
- Doesn’t take up much space
- Turns drinks into slushies
- Easy to use
- Child-friendly
Cons
- Doesn’t work for back-to-back slushies
- If you or your child likes to guzzle slushies all afternoon, you may need a second cup to rotate in and out of the freezer — but most people won’t find this an issue.

What is a frozen slushie cup?
It’s exactly what it sounds like: a cup with freezable gel chambers built into the walls. You freeze the cup, pour in your drink, squeeze the sides together, and within 1-2 minutes, you’ve got a proper slushie.
Perfect for hot days, 7-Eleven Slurpee-obsessed kids, and anyone who wants an icy drink without the commitment of a complete machine.
Can you put fizzy drinks in a slushy cup?
Yes! I tested it with Diet Coke, and it worked perfectly. The carbonation doesn’t affect the freezing process.
Just pour it in gently to avoid too much fizz overflow while you’re squeezing
How do slushy cups work?
The science is surprisingly simple.
The cup contains freezable gel chambers. When frozen, those gel walls get extremely cold. When you pour liquid in, it makes contact with the frozen walls and starts to ice up.
Squeezing the cup scrapes the freezing liquid off the sides and mixes it through, creating that classic slushie texture in 1-2 minutes.
Magic? Kind of. Science? Also yes.
Is it worth it?
Absolutely. A slushy cup is perfect if you don’t have the space, time, or energy for a complete slushie machine, but still want that icy, just-about-frozen drink experience from the comfort of your own home.
