When Woolworths sold 55,000 Cinnabon cakes in just 5 days last year, stores couldn’t keep them on shelves. Now it’s back permanently, so we put it to the test to see if it lives up to the hype.
When can I buy the Cinnabon cake?
Stores will see the Cinnabon cakes return from Sunday, 22 February. Mark your calendars, and keep reading to find out if it’s actually worth the fuss.
How much is the Cinnabon cake?
It’s tasty, convenient, and affordable, costing only $10 per cake.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
- We had 7 people taste test the cake, but the team was split.
- Some rated it 8.5/10, others said “I’d rather make my own”.
- It’s perfect for time-poor shoppers, but homemade alternatives win on flavour.
What is a Cinnabon cake?
Woolworths collaborated with Cinnabon to create a light, fluffy sponge swirled with Cinnabon’s world-famous cinnamon spice. It’s topped with a signature layer of smooth cream cheese frosting. Sounds divine, right?
Is the Woolworths Cinnabon cake actually that good?
The BHG team was sent a cake to try, and as always, we were brutally honest with our thoughts. We admit – it was actually very good. While opinions were somewhat divided, the majority of the team loved it. Let’s get into it.

Meet the taste-testers
Tahni Mesann, Digital Editor, is a time-poor working mum who loves finding convenient, bakery-inspired treats that deliver flavour without adding extra effort to her week.
Jade Coull, Senior Content Producer, is obsessed with Cinnabons. So, when she heard Woolworths made a cake with them, she was keen to see if it was as good as the real thing.
Jo McKinnon, Senior Sub Editor, has never eaten a Cinnabon. She does, however, eat many things with glee, so was ready for a free feed.
Rachel Iorfino, Senior Content Producer, is a journalist that loves trying out new food items. She does not have a sweet tooth, but will always take one for the team and taste-test any interesting sweet treats that come her way.
Jenny Dillon, Garden Editor, isn’t afraid to share her honest thoughts on viral food trends. With years of tasting experience on her belt, she’s one to trust.
The verdict is…
If there’s one thing everyone agreed on, it was how moist the cake was. The flavour profile was perfectly balanced, neither too sweet nor too bland.
Jade, a self-professed Cinnabon addict, said, “I really like it, but I love Cinnabon – I could eat them all the time. I love the flavour and would definitely buy this. I’d give it an 8.5/10.”
Tahni felt similarly, enjoying the flavours of the cake. “It’s really yummy, I like the icing. It tastes like any other Woolies cake, if you know what I mean. Really cinnamon-y and sweet, but not too sweet. It’s nice, I like it. I’d give it an 8 or 9/10.”
Jenny was a big fan of the texture. “It’s so moist and delicious. I love it, yes, even the icing!”

But not everyone was sold on the viral Cinnabon cake. Jo and Rachel were harder to please, preferring homemade sweets to store-bought options.
“It’s good… it’s a bit gluggy,” Rachel said. “I’m not a cake person. It’s yummy, I like the cinnamon, big fan of cinnamon. I wouldn’t buy it, though; I’d make my own cake. I don’t think it’s worth buying. I’m sorry, Cinnabon. I think this is – by bought cake standards – maybe a 6. Which isn’t terrible. A Freddo Frog ice cream cake is a 10, so that’s the standard I’m going by.”
Meanwhile, Jo – accustomed to the delicious cooking of our food editor, Sarah – couldn’t get past the memory of Sarah’s cinnamon scrolls.
“It’s cinnamon, but it’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted, to be frank,” Jo said. “I think I prefer Sarah’s cooking, to be quite honest. The cinnamon scrolls she made were really good, they were better than this, sorry!”
While the Cinnabon cake did divide our team, the majority rules. If you can’t bake your own cake from scratch and prefer a convenient option, this cake is a solid choice. It’s delicious, guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser, and now it’s here to stay in stores year-round.
