The smartie cookie is a favourite when at a café, so why not make it at home yourself? Nothing is more exciting to kids than bright, colourful chocolate buttons on top of their afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Method

1.

Preheat oven to 180°C. Line 2 oven trays with baking paper. Put butter and caster sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat on medium for 3 minutes or until light and creamy. Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth.

2.

Fold in flour until a dough forms. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls and put on prepared trays, allowing for spreading. Press flat, then brush with milk and dust with icing sugar. Press coloured chocolate buttons into cookies.

3.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and crisp. Cool completely on wire racks.
