A flight attendant has revealed exactly what shoes you shouldn’t be wearing and why.
Andrea Fischbach, who works for American Airlines, has shared that flyers should always avoid wearing backless sandals, flip-flops and high heels at all times.
Not only do they make it difficult to evacuate in an emergency, but they can potentially damage the emergency evacuation slides, fly-off your feet and aren’t practical for running.
Ms Fischbach said “I would really advise against high heels or flip-flops or any slides, mostly for safety purposes. If there is an evacuation and slides are required, your high heels will have to come off, as they can puncture the slide. Who knows where and in what conditions you’ll land. Plus, they aren’t very practical running gate to gate.“
The flight attendant also advised that for sanitary purposes, enclosed shoes are the way to go. Ms Fischbach warned “that isn’t water on the floor (yes, use your imagination), and sandals invite whatever that liquid is to splash on your feet.”
Lastly, keep in mind airport security. Leave the stilettos with nails in the heels at home as they can potentially make the metal detectors go off. Also avoid shoes with large metal embellishments and studs, as they can also set off the metal detectors.
