Wondering what to do with your old Ektorp sofa? You can now turn it into Ikea money with the retail giant’s new take-back service.

Ikea has launched Australia’s first furniture take-back service, allowing Sydney-siders to return their unwanted Ikea furniture in exchange for store vouchers.

The furniture will be sold on to a new customer at Ikea Tempe, giving it a second lease of life.

Customers will need to fill out an online form and email photos of their old Ikea furniture, which will be assessed by an Ikea staff member.

If the furniture qualifies for the service, Ikea will offer customers a price for the furniture. It will then be put up for sale in Ikea Tempe at the same value of the voucher given to the customer.

The new Tempe scheme joins existing Ikea programs that take-back sofas, mattresses, batteries and light bulbs in stores across Australia.
