Most people assume that having an alcoholic beverage at night can contribute to weight gain and hinder any attempts at weight loss. While this may be true for many types of spirits, this isn’t actually always true for wine.
New studies into the effects of wine on the waist line by Washington State University and Harvard Medical School have found that having a glass or two of wine in the evening can actually help you lose weight.
The science works like this: the appetite-suppressing chemical resveratrol is found in most wines on the market, and is known for curbing the desire to eat and resisting the body’s fat cells.
The studies in question analysed 20,000 women over the course of 13 years and found that women who drank two glasses of wine per day (one in the evening) were 70% more likely to lose weight than those who didn’t have a glass of wine.
However, the type of wine you drink may have an impact on the efficacy of this weight loss method. So, stick to red wine as it is loaded with antioxidants and Medical News Today reports that red wine is believed to be able to boost heart health, protect against cancer and potentially help treat acne.
Cheers to that!
