While some claim the chore can be done in less than five minutes, for others, it’s not that simple.

It turns out there are some small steps you can take to reduce the amount of elbow grease needed when the time comes to deep-clean your oven.

Common mistakes that make cleaning the oven harder

Not using a liner

Grab yourself an oven sheet, or better yet, put an old baking tray to use and place it on the bottom of your oven to catch any drips and spills.

Out of sight out of mind will only work for so long. Instead, the Good Housekeeping Institute recommends placing a heatproof bowl of water in your oven after you’ve used it, leaving the heat on for a few minutes. This will loosen the residue, making it easy to wipe out once cool.

Forgetting the shelves

If your oven racks don’t fit in the dishwasher, try soaking them in an old tub or the bath. Read more here on how to clean your oven racks

Neglecting the oven door

Add the door to your after dinner cleaning list. This includes grabbing a spatula and scrape off anything food that’s been left behind after dinner.

You’ll be glad you did.
