Must-know dusting hacks for when you’re feeling lazy

Dusting: it’s a relentless chore that can’t be ignored.

While it’s tempting to let the dust pile up, a regular once-over will help keep the task as painless as possible.

And for people who really hate dusting, here are seven hacks to help you through it.

1. Dust using a sock

Despite the range of products available to for rid your home of dust, all you really need is a sock. Pop it over your hand and give surfaces a once over. Make sure you’re working from top to bottom. Once all the dust has fallen on the floor, you can vacuum it up.

2. Use tongs for blinds

Grab your tongs and cover the ends with a microfiber cloth or old stockings, securing with elastic bands. Clamp down on the blinds with your tongs and say goodbye to the dust.

3. Use a lint roller on lamp shades

Known as a magnet for dust, there’s a simple way to clean your lampshade. Grab your lint roller and regularly roll the adhesive over the surface of your lamp.

4. Remove dust with a paintbrush

For those small and delicate spots, grab a small, soft paintbrush to remove dust.

5. Remove dust from a ceiling fan with a pillowslip

The ceiling fan is another ‘magnet’ for dust. Avoid the mess and use a pillowcase to clean fans. Simply, place the case over the blade and pull it back. The dust will be contained in the slip instead of on the floor.

6. Hack your broom

The broom is perfect for those hard to reach places. Using safety pins or elastic bands attach a microfiber cloth, old shirt and tea towel around the head and let the dusting begin.

7. Use a dust-repellent spray

Chantel Mia (aka mama_mila_ on TikTok) shared her dust-repellent spray recipe, saying it “keeps the dust away for longer.”

The best part is all you need is water, vinegar, coconut oil and some essential oils (optional).
