For many people, pets are family members. We buy them gifts at Christmas, give them compliments and apologise profusely if we accidentally step on their paw or tail. Many people also take pride in picking the perfect name for their new pup, but it seems that some names are more popular than others.
According to data obtained by dog toy brand Tasty Bone, almost one in five dogs were named after a movie character in 2019 – usually after a character in a Disney or Marvel movie.
In fact, names such as Loki, Jarvis and Harley were popular for pooches in 2019, which could be attributed to the massive success of Avengers: Endgame which was released in 2019, and the much-hyped Harley Quinn movie ‘Birds of Prey’ which has been largely publicised in the lead up to the 2020 release.
With that in mind, Tasty Bone predicts dog names in 2020 will follow a similar trend, on the back of the release of The Lion King, Frozen 2 and The Lady & the Tramp.
