Content creator Nicole Jaques (@itsnicolejaques), who regularly shares insightful kitchen hacks, cleaning tips, and delectable recipes, recently unveiled a game-changing mopping technique to her followers.
In an Instagram video on mopping hardwood floors, Nicole let us all in on a little secret, saying the figure 8 method is far superior to any other technique.
“Figure 8 mopping > All other mopping,” she wrote. “But I’m totally serious. Any other method, and you will have dirt left on your floor.”
Is it safe to use vinegar on hardwood floors?
But Nicole didn’t stop there. She offered a word of caution: “Also, never use vinegar!”
Instead of this acidic solution, she recommended a concoction comprising castile soap, water, essential oils, and rubbing alcohol. Get her recipe here.
The response from Nicole’s followers was overwhelming, with many eager to adopt the Figure 8 technique.
One person wrote: “Ooh, I’ll have to give the figure 8 method a try! Thanks for the invaluable tips!”
Almost everyone wanted to know why you shouldn’t use vinegar on your hardwood floors.
Vinegar, it turns out, is a contentious choice for hardwood floor cleaning because of its acidic nature.
Being inherently acidic, vinegar can harm the wood and its protective finish over time.
And importantly, lots of people wanted to know where to get the mop Nicole was using. While Nicole didn’t reveal her choice of mop and bucket, we found a similar one here.
Why the figure 8 mopping technique works
It turns out your mopping technique matters. If you push dirt around instead of lifting it off the floor, the floor won’t get clean. Start with a clean mop head, use a figure-eight or S-shaped motion, and wring out the mop well to avoid excess water.
