In this tutorial, bloggers Alice & Lois have taken a plain Ikea Skogsta wooden bench and transformed it with mudcloth upholstery into a customised piece. The Skogsta bench is no longer available at Ikea, but you could use the Norraker bench in white birch for a Scandinavian look. All you need for this DIY is foam, padding and a staple gun.

In this hack, the designers from Avenue Design Studio have transformed an Ikea Besta cabinet into a built-in reading nook and storage space. The highly-customised space was created using multiplex plywood and leather handles. You can find similar leather handles from Made Measure in Australia.
