The experts weigh in on what a GI-lowering drink could mean for your diabetes

Australian researchers say that a new pre-meal drink called GlucoControl can improve the lives of people with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Research from the Baker IDI and University of Adelaide has suggested that drinking GlucoControl before meals reduces the glycaemic index (GI) of a high-GI meal by 33-38%.

The Glycemic Index ranks carbohydrates found in food on the effect they have on your blood glucose levels. The lower the GI, the slower the rise in your blood glucose levels. Visit glycemicindex.com for more about the GI of everyday foods.

According to Peter Clifton, endocrinologist and Professor of Nutrition at the University of South Australia, ‘this drink will prove especially important in preventing and delaying the progression of type 2 diabetes for those with pre-diabetes or well-controlled diabetes and offers a much simpler and effective way to lower GI when compared with strict diets.’
