7 beauty hacks with bi-carb soda

Turn this baking ingredient into a beauty essential.

Bi-carb soda might be your go-to DIY cleaner that removes grease and brings back shine, but it can also be used for at-home beauty hacks. The baking essential is a naturally occurring mineral called sodium bicarbonate, and it’s a pure leavening agent that needs to be mixed with moisture and an acidic ingredient for a chemical reaction to take place and make food rise. It’s one of those magical ingredients that can help you cut costs by using one product for multiple purposes.

1. Make shampoo

Do you wish your hair had more volume? Mix one to two tablespoons of bi-carb soda in 1 cup of water, wash through hair, then rinse with one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 cup of water. The results are shiny, voluminous locks. Just want a deeper clean? Add a teaspoon to your usual shampoo and wash like normal.

2. Remove your tan

Bi-carb soda can remove fake tan. Thoroughly mix half a cup of bi-carb soda with half a cup of lemon juice and apply to the areas of tan you are trying to remove, wait a few minutes then rinse off the paste. Repeat until your faux glow has faded to a more discreet colour.
