A huge sigh of relief: Darrell Lea is returning to our taste buds, six years after going into receivership.
According to The Herald Sun, Darrell Lea has purchased the Heritage Fine Chocolates factory in Melbourne, in an attempt to ramp up its production.
Earlier this year, investment firm Quadrant Private Equity bought the troubled confectioner for $200 million dollars from its previous owners.
Staff of the factory will keep their jobs while the brand expects to hire another 50 people.
Although the chocolate-maker closed down stores when it went into administration, the range of sweets have still been sold across supermarkets nation-wide.
“Their (Heritage) capabilities plus the Darrell Lea brand equals a big opportunity for all of us,’’ says marketing director Tim Stanford, speaking to news.com.au.
“It’s great for us to be manufacturing in Melbourne and there’s new job opportunities coming from it.’’
“We are known for chocolate interestingly although we don’t do much chocolate now, mainly on bullets.’’
“Until now, we have always been viewed as a Sydney company but with manufacturing expansion into Victoria we can forge stronger relationships with our retailers and consumers,” adds chief executive Tim York.
It remains to be seen whether you’ll see a store near you, but at least we’ll see a lot more of our favourite chocolates.
