Hybrid Kmart and Bunnings hack restores grout in minutes

A simple grout-cleaning solution delivering professional results.

Getting quoted $600 to clean grimy tile grout is enough to make anyone look for a DIY solution.

That’s exactly what happened to TikTok user Sarah Leenheers when she moved into her new home. The floors were filthy, but professional cleaning was out of her budget. So she found a workaround that cost her just $50 – a $10.99 Bunnings grout cleaner paired with a $39 Kmart electric brush.

“We moved into our new house, and the floors needed some much-needed TLC. I was quoted over $600,” she said in a video.

How the hack works

In the video, Sarah shows the dirty grout before spraying Long Life Grout Cleaner from Bunnings onto an area. Then, she uses the Kmart (or Target) Long-Handled Scrubbing Brush to clean the area, with results in moments.

“If you have tiles, you need this scrubber from Kmart!” she said in the description.

The Kmart electric brush comes with three attachments, a rechargeable battery and an 85cm handle. It has a one-hour run time. You can also get the Anko Long Scrubbing Brush from Target.

In the comments section, her followers said the tiles looked brand new.

While many agreed the Long Life Grout Cleaner from Bunnings worked, some were not as impressed with the Kmart electric brush.

“It’s the grout cleaner, not the scrubber. I use a cloth, and the results are crazy,” one person commented.

“That grout cleaner is awesome, I’ve been using it for ages, and you don’t need any fancy tools to scrub with cause it works so well,” said another.

The Bunnings grout cleaner also has a strong following beyond TikTok, with experts in the Mum’s Who Clean group declaring it “magic”! They also recommended a grout-cleaning brush from Bunnings. This grout brush from Amazon is another great option, and you can get the Long Life Grout Cleaner from Amazon if you’re not near a Bunnings.

Does grout need to be sealed after cleaning?

After cleaning your tiles and grout, it’s essential to seal the grout to prevent dirt and stains. You’ll want to use a specific grout sealer that fills tiny gaps and pores, keeping dirt and stains from seeping in and maintaining the clean look of your tiles.
