Without harsh chemicals.

The oven can get filthy quite quickly, especially the glass door. And although it takes no time for the glass to be covered in grease and grime, the same cannot be said for cleaning it. Or so I thought.

Honestly, I hadn’t cleaned my oven in two years, and it was in pretty bad shape. So bad that my mum would regularly make comments about it. I think one of the reasons why I’ve neglected cleaning is because, in the past, I’ve only used chemical oven cleaners that make it hard to breathe.

Cleaning with Koh

So yes, I would finally clean my oven, but I wanted to do it with a non-toxic oven cleaner.

Naturally, I turned to the Facebook group Mums Who Clean, where one mum explained she, too, hadn’t cleaned her oven door in a long time and thought she would experiment with a few products to see which worked best.

Long story short, the winner was the Koh diamond sponge

“Moral of the story is to get the Koh Diamond sponge as I think it’s the secret ingredient to get the same results,” she wrote. “So there you go. Have a nice day.

How to clean an oven with Koh

Cleaning an oven with Koh is surprisingly simple. The process took me around 15 minutes, which is a huge plus.

  • Make sure the surface of the oven is dry.
  • Spray your oven and glass door with Koh universal cleaner and leave for up to 5 minutes.
  • Next, spray a Diamond Sponge with some Koh Universal Cleaner and do a spot test.
  • If all is clear, gently scrub away the grime (this part is very satisfying).
  • I used a paper towel to wipe off the gunk and sprayed and scrubbed the glass with the sponge a few more times.

A word of warning, though. I didn’t have this problem, but some Mums Who Clean Facebook group mums said the sponge scratched their glass. But as one person said, “Wetting it makes it less harsh.” So if you’re worried, try wetting the sponge and testing it in a small area first.

What is the Koh diamond sponge used for?

So what else can the Koh diamond sponge be used for? Koh says on their website the Diamond sponge is for heavy-duty cleaning and replaces the need to use harsh chemical cleaners.

“The Diamond Sponge is ideal for ovens, BBQs and soap scum and will tackle baked-on fats, limescale, rust, mineral deposits and other stubborn soils.”

That said, it’s important to remember that the diamond sponge is a powerful abrasive should not be used on surfaces susceptible to easily being scratched, such as plastics, chrome, and stainless steel.
