Your old cassette tapes could be worth big bucks

Who knew tapes would make a comeback?

Cassette tapes are those finnicky little plastic rectangle things from the ‘90s that preceded CDs, but appeared in cars and homes after records. Kids could use their tape decks to record mix tapes for their high school sweethearts, you had to rewind them if you wanted to replay a song, and flip it over halfway through an album. Ahh, the good old days.

Although records have made a big comeback in recent years, no one even considered the possibility that the humble tape may reappear in the contemporary age. However, it seems like avid collectors are now paying big bucks to complete their obscure cassette tape collections.

Online music data website Discogs has revealed that cassette tapes are now thr third fastest-growing format being sold on their website, and that people are now paying $500 or more to acquire particular music tapes.
