ALDI shoppers, it’s time to get excited. You can officially skip the queue at checkout and stay in the comfort of your own home to get grocery shopping done. ALDI has partnered with DoorDash to provide on-demand grocery delivery across the country.

In July, they began trials in Canberra where they saw immediate success. Within the first week alone, there were thousands of orders.

Simon Rossi, Vice President DoorDash APAC, said: “Our partnership with ALDI is all about delivering our customers greater convenience, choice and value. ALDI’s much-loved exclusive and value-driven range combined with DoorDash’s reliable, on-demand delivery technology, means shoppers around the country don’t have to go too long between ALDI shops. We are proud to help enable this new level of accessibility for Australians.”

The service has been available in most ALDI locations in Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and Victoria. New South Wales was the final state to switch on 16 September, meaning 1,800 products are now available to order across every state, including fresh fruit and vegies, meat, seafood, dairy, bread and household essentials.

“We’ve responded to what our customers have been asking for,” said Simon Padovani-Ginies, Group Director at ALDI Australia. “Whether it’s midweek essentials, forgotten ingredients, weekend top-ups, or their full haul, most customers around the country can now order their ALDI favourites online and have their haul delivered straight to their doors.”

What ALDI learnt from the trial

The most popular items bought using the DoorDash app was everyday essentials like fresh produce, milk and eggs. They were purchased in about a quarter of ALDI orders nationally, with a third of the orders placed on weekends. It also appeared that Canberrans have a sweet tooth, while WA, QLD, SA and VIC shoppers prefer savoury snacks instead.

Can you buy ALDI special buys on DoorDash app?

While delivering direct to your door is convenient for many, it doesn’t offer the one thing ALDI is famous for – their special buys section. You’ll need to go in stores to see what’s on offer, and honestly, that’s all the fun.

Will ALDI groceries be more expensive on DoorDash app?

While ALDI is known for being the most affordable supermarket, ordering directly to your door may end up increasing the prices. The price you pay on the app includes item costs, a DoorDash markup, delivery fee, and service fee, all of which are set up by DoorDash. This differs from Woolworths and Coles, who have their own delivery service and can offer free delivery when spending over a certain amount. However, the price variations are only slight, and when you consider the time and travel to get there, it can be worthwhile.

Want your next ALDI haul delivered to your door? Simply download DoorDash from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store or visit www.doordash.com.au to get started.
