Pretty perfection
If you have an old solid timber wardrobe, or perhaps you’ve bought one from a thrift shop, giving it a makeover to bring it up to style is an easy weekend project. To replicate this idea: give it a light sand then brush away dust. Coat wardrobe with primer and let dry. Paint the wardrobe with 2-3 coats of your chosen topcoat colour – this buttery yellow is a delightful option! PS, if your wardrobe is missing a hanging rail, you can add a new one using painted dowel. Easy!
Decorative touches
Bring instant flair to the inside of your wardrobe by lining the internal surfaces with fabulous wallpaper (check out the range at selected Bunnings stores). Once you’re done, add brightly-painted coat hooks to the walls to hold your scarves, belts, bags and more. Psst… Take another look at this terrific shoe storage idea – a pigeonhole for each pair!
The doors
Don’t let the internal surface of your wardrobe door go to waste – it’s valuable real estate for your collection of shoes! Just hang a shoe storage system from the top of the door, then pile them in. Meanwhile, inside your closet, use decorative boxes or plastic storage tubs to keep smaller items neat, sweet and super tidy.
Open storage
In the kids room, create an open wardrobe zone for all of their bits and bobs. Start by painting the main wall in a colour they love (here, soothing green), then set out the storage as you see fit. Flat-pack units are ideal for stowing clothes and shoes, then a long rail up above is just the trick for hanging space. Loving the little space for the kids to sit and put on their shoes, plus the nearby hooks for school bags, too!
