From ingenious kitchen banquette seating to organised garage workstations, this article is your ultimate guide to efficient storage solutions.
Seated storage boxes
Are you thinking about building a banquette by a window? It’s a fabulous idea for an in-kitchen dining nook or space-saving solution for apartment living. Go one step further and make the seats on each side of a table storage boxes, too! Just attach the lids on hinges to make accessing whatever you stow inside nice and simple. In a closed position, you can throw on upholstered cushion pads to soften the seat come mealtime.
Mix and match storage solutions
From the study to the kids’ playroom, mix and match storage options are the perfect solution to any storage problem. Search the aisles at Bunnings for simple-to-assemble shelf systems, like the Lugna range, that suit your space.
Made to measure
If you’re guilty of making it midway through your baking and unable to find the right cup or spoon measure in your chaotic drawers, then this hack is for you! On a thin panel of black-painted MDF or plywood, attach a series of cup hooks, spaced to take each measure. Attach the panel to the inside of a kitchen door using small screws and hang up the tools. Left to right, go the extra-organised mile by tracing around each measure with a white paint pen. Clever!
Garage matters
Keep your garage in neat and tidy order by assigning a spot for everything you need. Starting with your much-loved DIY kit, knock up a simple timber-framed workbench, then mount a tall pegboard system to the wall above – ideal for hanging your hand tools. You can easily fashion something like this yourself, or buy ready-made systems that you simply set up, ready to stow your stuff. Either way, a trip to the hardware store is on the cards!
Hidden laundry nook
At one end of the bathroom (as here), kitchen or hallway, create a hidden laundry nook by installing a series of floor-to-ceiling custom timber shelves, allowing space for your washer and dryer. Have your plumber deal with the plumbing, and consider adding a laundry tub, too. Large bi-fold doors hide the lot away – just paint them the same colour as your walls so this laundry zone disappear when closed.
