Here’s how

Step 1

Lay out a drop sheet in your work area. Position chest of drawers on top, leaving drawers inside carcass. Using brush loaded with Antoinette, paint the carcass and drawer fronts, leaving a rough triangle section unpainted at the front of the drawers. Apply the paint thickly, moving your brush in every direction to create beautiful brush marks and to build up lots of texture. Let dry.

Step 2

Push drawers firmly inside carcass. Use painter’s tape to outline a triangle shape on the front of the chest of drawers. Press tape flat.

Step 3

Using brush loaded with Old White, paint the triangle shape inside the masking tape. Use the same method in Step 1 to build up lots of texture with your paint. Remove tape. Let dry.

Step 4

Using rag or wax brush, apply clear wax to the triangle-shaped area painted in Old White. Work the clear wax into the surface and wipe away any excess.

Step 5

Using rag or wax brush, apply white wax to remaining surfaces painted in Antoinette. Push wax into the crevices to highlight the texture. Wipe away any excess.

For you to know!

The longer the white wax is left after being applied, the stronger the colour becomes. You should experiment to find out what look works best for you. If you feel like you’ve applied too much white wax – don’t worry – use a rag or wax brush loaded with clear wax to remove the white wax – just like an eraser.
