Castlery just made this unexpected piece of furniture cool again

Can’t believe I'm saying this, but… I love this recliner.

Castlery has dropped a brand new collection to celebrate the tones of autumn and winter. When I saw some of the pieces styled by leading Australian interior stylist and author Steve Cordony, at Rosedale Farm… it made me want to redesign my entire home, and it’ll have the same impact on you. While I loved every item, there was one that stood out. A classy, yet super comfy leather sofa… but with a twist.

Here are four reasons why I loved that leather lounge and know you will too.

1. It’s a modern recliner

It isn’t just an ordinary leather lounge; it reclines. The Jaron leather recliner makes a major statement, and is so comfortable, I swear I could fall asleep on it. The cushions are filled with feathers, hello!?

We know what you’re thinking, recliners are old and ugly. They’re a reminder of our grandparents’ lounge room, creaky and so annoying to use.

Let me debunk that old-school thought process for you. Firstly, it’s incognito. The buttons are hidden between the cushions, so you can’t even tell it reclines upon first glance. It’s an impressive party trick that’ll have guests surprised and not wanting to leave. It’s also electronic, so all you need to do is sit back, relax and press a button. No need to work those calves to get it back into position. Plus, it’s a sophisticated style, with clean lines, a modern edge and a leather-look that makes it suitable for any space.

We spoke to Declan, the CEO of Castlery, about the stigma around recliners. He said, “This is not your grandfather’s recliner. Recliners have developed a reputation, so we started from scratch. The Castlery design team spent years designing a recliner that not only looks good, but feels good too. Merging aesthetics with engineering was paramount to creating a recliner that you want to show off and it has the functionality of a power recliner, but it still feels true to our design aesthetic.”

2. The perfect, cosy reading spot

When I saw it, all I wanted to do was grab my favourite book, my softest blanket, a cup of tea and recline. It’s giving cosy vibes for the colder season. The only con? I can’t guarantee I wouldn’t fall asleep while reading… but isn’t that the ultimate sign of a good couch?

As well as being the perfect spot to cosy up, it looks gorgeous even when you’re not cocooned in it.

Declan said, “The minimalist, low-profile and modular design of the Jaron looks just as good from the back as the front. The slimline silhouette means it is perfect for any size living space, and it only needs 15 centimetres of backwards clearance to achieve full reclining position. Everyone has likened it to the pure comfort of a business-class bed.”

3. High-quality materials

It’s a high-quality purchase that looks sophisticated, simplistic, and luxurious but at an accessible price point. Crafted from a supple top grain leather which creates a buttery soft seat, it has a sinuous spring suspension to distribute support, combined with foam, fibre and 30% feather fill.

“It provides a super comfortable seat that we liken to cloud-like comfort support – it contours to your body,” Declan said.

It comes in two classic fabrics – the Cocoa, as seen styled by Steve Cordony, and a sandy-hued performance fabric, Dune.

“Durable, convenient and low maintenance. With all the perks of enhanced durability, stain resistance, and resistance to fading. This fabric is designed to withstand the rigours of everyday life,” Declan said.

4. Customise it for your space

I saw the lounge styled by the incredibly talented Steve Cordony within the historic Rosedale Farm. To say it looked phenomenal is quite the understatement but it’s so versatile, it isn’t hard to style it in any space. It comes as a single seater, two-seater and a larger configuration which can be customised in various ways, with 1x corner sofa, 2x wide arms, 2x power recliner armless seats and 1x stationary armless sofa. On their website, you can mix and match it however you like, and add on extra elements if you wish.

We asked Steve for a few pointers for styling it in any home, and here’s what he said.

“The Jaron recliner is a true style chameleon. It looks just as good (and at home) in a modern space as it does juxtaposed with 1877 architecture, as seen at our Rosedale shoot,” Steve said.

“It anchors the room with ease so it doesn’t need much – a few cushions and some throws will keep it cosy and comfortable, the perfect spot for a movie night.”

Worth the investment?

As a proud owner of five pieces from Castlery’s previous collection (a bed frame, lounge, coffee table, and dining table), I can vouch that their pieces last the test of time and add so much beauty and cosiness to even the simplest spaces.

The autumn and winter collection is the epitome of high-end luxury at an accessible price point, with gorgeous swivel chairs, caramel cabinets, vintage handwoven rugs, textured bed frames, and trendy marble coffee tables. Do I think it’s worth it? Absolutely!

Here’s some of my top picks from the new range, plus Castlery is currently having a massive end-of-financial-year sale (EOFYS) on their website, so go grab some bargain deals while you can!
