Get organised
A designated place to sit and efficiently get through your work is a wonderful thing as it means you’re less likely to get distracted. To get started, paint the main wall behind your desk in your favourite colour – here, orange is punchy and energising, but you can choose any colour you love! Next, position a generously-sized desk against the wall, then surround the sides and top of the desk with plenty of storage to accommodate your filing needs. Flat-pack units are ideal for this use! Remember to make sure the power source for your tech is nearby, then wheel in a comfy work chair, wall-mount pin boards and flick on a task lamp.
Quick solution
Need a work station in a hurry? Don’t underestimate the capabilities of trestle legs and a laminated timber panel for this – just plonk them in position, and voila! When it comes to accessorising your new work space, it’s over to your creative flair. Try adding vintage maps or posters to the wall behind your desk, a pretty indoor plant on the desk and a much-needed task lamp, too.

If you have more space to work with, perhaps in a spare room, make use of a long wall to create this home office. An off-the-shelf door on trestle legs is an easy desk option; just paint all components white for a fresh look! Then as far as storage goes, you can add a handy drawer unit on wheels below your desk and use flat-pack systems as bookcases to sit alongside your desk. Go one step further and customise the flat-packs by adding U-shaped book dividers made from orange-painted MDF. Clever!
