Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens was in ruins in 1930, when it was bought by poet and writer, Vita Sackville West and her diplomat husband, Sir Harold Nicholson.

But the couple saw potential and, over the next few years, worked tirelessly to bring the property back to life.
