Climbing plants are a popular indoor plant choice for a good reason: they look good and are the perfect space-saving plant that can be hung in baskets or mounted on walls.
The best part is that they are easy to care for.
“I want to get it to grow up”
The thing with climbing plants is that if they aren’t given a support system, the leaves and vines will trail over the pot.
That is unless you’re Liz Fox Roseberry from Fox Craft Custom, who discovered a new way to stake climbing plants using copper craft wire – and the result is amazing.
“I have this neon pothos, and I want to get it to grow up,” says Liz on TikTok. “What if I attach wires to the stem? Will they bend and do what I want them to do without a stake?”
Yes, it will!
Commenters can’t get enough of this hack, with many people calling Liz a genius.
“Thank you for sharing. That is magic, damn it now I have to do this to all my plants,” said one fan.
Another added: “Just tried this with my monstera, and it works! I did the corkscrew technique, and it worked like a charm. You are a genius.”

In another video on TikTok, Liz says that they’ve been thriving since she’s been using copper wire on her plants.
“Plants I have been staking with wire are popping off. They are just growing so fast, and I love it. Honestly, the reason for that is simple it’s just a light thing. They come out from the bookshelf a little bit and are so happy,” she says.
Additionally, some commenters added the plant could also be thriving because of the copper. Not to mention, they are natural climbers and helping them grow up is replicating their natural environment.

How to support plants using copper wire
Liz recommends using 9 and 12-gauge wires like this one, but it depends on your plant and how much support it needs.
The tricky part is wiring the copper into the soil. Like in this video, Liz shows her follwoers how she twists the end to create a corkscrew.

What to do when the plant outgrows the wire
When your vine outgrows the wire, you can attach more wire and wrap the new growth around it.
By attaching more wire and wrapping the new growth around it, you can continue to support your plant as it grows.
