Sliced bread or bread rolls? Debate rages over Bunnings sausage sizzle

Which do you prefer?

A debate has erupted on national radio this week after Bunnings revealed their preference for sliced bread over rolls at a sausage sizzle.

“[We] encourage community groups hosting a sausage sizzle to serve sausages in slices of bread to ensure our offer is as consistent as possible across all stores,” the hardware giant said in a statement this week.

Roll vs sliced bread: What bread does Bunnings use?

Naturally, Bunnings fans had a few things to say about this, with some phoning radio station 2GB to air their opinions.

One listener told Ben Fordham Live host Mark Levy that bread rolls “were the much better option”.

“The slices of bread are way too soggy when you put your mustard and onion and sauce on,” she said.

She believes that a bread roll leaves room for an extra sausage if needed.

“If you want two sausages, you pay more, and that money goes back into the community,” she added.

Another listener said he would happily take either bread roll or sliced bread.

“Why not both?” he said.

What is a Bunnings sausage sizzle?

The Bunnings sausage sizzle is a classic Australian tradition that has been running for over 25 years. It serves as a vital fundraising event for grassroots organisations to continue to support their community, with 100 per cent of profits going to the organisation.

Bunnings will supply the barbecue, gazebo, tables, free mobile payment facilities, safety items and cleaning supplies. The organisation brings the rest, including bread.

Not-for-profit groups can easily book a sizzle with their nearby Bunnings store, bringing along volunteers and necessary supplies while Bunnings assists with logistics. More information can be found on the Bunnings website.
