Instant noodles are often associated with struggling uni students and kids. However, these delicious two-minute meals can be reimagined into all sorts of creative recipes that the whole family will love. We consulted MasterChef winner Adam Liaw – who is currently working with MAGG – to learn the ways of the noodle.
1. For the savoury pancake lovers
“In Hiroshima, their savoury pancake dish – known as okonomiyaki – layers crepes, noodles, cabbage, egg and thinly sliced pork in a dish that is an icon of the city. Top it with your favourite barbecue sauce and Japanese mayonnaise.”
2. Build your own ramen burger
“It’s not hard to get on the ramen burger bandwagon. Cook your noodles according to the packet instructions and allow to cool for a little while. Then, pan-fry handfuls of noodles – packed tightly in egg rings to hold their shape. Add your burger patties, fillings and you’re ready to go.”
3. Noodles in a bun
“If ramen burgers sound like a little too much work, why not try it the other way around and put the noodles in the bun instead. Yakisoba-pan is a Japanese noodle sandwich found all over the country. Cook your noodles, mix in the seasonings, and stick the lot in a soft white bread roll.”
4. Hot pot? Why not!
“Korean ‘Army stew’ is truly a dish where anything goes. Originally created from surplus army rations, it’s a thick stew of whatever you can get your hands on. Try making your own with the flavour base of MAGGI Fusian Japanese Teriyaki Soupy Noodles and Korean chilli paste, and add frankfurters, tofu, the noodle cakes, spring onion, mushrooms, sliced cheese. You can even dump in a tin of baked beans (yes, really!).”
