An honest review of the multicooker by BHG's Senior Food Editor, Sarah Murphy.

I love having people over and entertaining on my little balcony. But even for a food editor, sometimes prepping to entertain is exhausting! Even if you aren’t in the test kitchen all week like me, many of us still want to make entertaining quick and easy, which is where the Thermomix TM7 comes in.

Thermomix TM7 review verdict

My rating: 9/10

Why I rated it: The new Thermomix TM7 is an absolute powerhouse of a machine, from chopping and sautéing to steaming and blending, it’s easy to see why this brand has such a devout following. The Cookidoo app takes away the endless question of “what’s for dinner?” and the step-by-step process is incredibly clear, so I always felt confident I hadn’t accidentally missed a step or thrown something in at the wrong point.

The Thermomix TM7 is also one of the winners in the 2025 BHG Appliance Awards – BHG named it a finalist for its multi-tasking role, and our audience voted it in as the winner of the “multipurpose marvels” category.

Pros

  • Using recipes built in through Cookidoo recipe portal. The step-by-step process takes the guesswork out of cooking, and there are more than 100,000 recipes to choose from.
  • The large 10-inch touchscreen is very user friendly. I liked that there were also options in settings to adjust the text size for the display if you needed to make it easier to read.
  • The Varoma (the tiered steamer that sits on top of the bowl) has a 45% larger steaming capacity than past models.
  • The mixing bowl is now heat-insulated for safer handling.
  • The Cookidoo app can create shopping lists for your selected recipes.
  • The precision temperature control ensures perfect results each time.
  • A Thermomix consultant helps you get used to the appliance.

Cons

  • The cost of the machine is an obvious pain point. While you can’t fault the quality, it is still a large sum of money to invest.
  • If you’ve never used a machine like this before, you may find it takes time getting used to it. However, with a little practice, you’ll quickly pick up this new style of cooking and find it will in fact save you time in the long run.
  • Access to the Cookidoo app does require a paid subscription ($89 per year). It’s a useful tool, but it’s worth keeping in mind as an additional cost after investing in the appliance itself. You get three months free when buying the TM7.

What is the Thermomix TM7?

The TM7 is a smart, all-in-one appliance that combines more than 20 functions, from chopping and sautéing to slow cooking and steaming. My first impression of the Thermomix TM7 is how sleek it looks. I gasped when Consultant Susie set it up on the bench. It has a beautiful black heat-insulated mixing bowl (which is cool to touch), and a generous 10-inch touch display.

The TM7 has a new silent motor, and I was so impressed by just how quiet this machine was while diligently cooking, mixing and blending away (when blitzing at higher speeds or using hard ingredients, the noise understandably increases).

One of the new features of this model is Open Cooking Mode, where you can now cook with the lid off – great for if you prefer your sauce a little thicker or if you just like to be in control. The blades don’t rotate when this mode is activated as a safety feature, so you will need to stir it yourself while using it.

Does the Thermomix TM7 make entertaining easier?

I wanted to see if the Thermomix TM7 can take the legwork out of entertaining. My main rule for entertaining is to create a menu that I can prep ahead for. The best dinner parties are the ones where you can relax too and aren’t stressed over the stove, deciding whether a sauce has thickened enough! I decided to create a menu that can be mostly prepped ahead and the one item to make on the day is ready in less than five minutes.

After drooling over all the delicious options in the Cookidoo app, I chose my menu:

  • Frozen mango daiquiri for arrival drinks
  • Hearty lasagne for the main
  • A decadent chocolate mousse for dessert.

I added these to my favourites so I could easily find them. When I turned on the TM7 later, they were saved in the My Recipes section. Handy!

First up: dessert

Chocolate mousse has always been that recipe which I can never get perfect. There’s a lot of pressure points in a chocolate mousse where things can go wrong, so I wanted to see how the Thermomix TM7 could take the stress away from this delicious dessert.

The machine effortlessly melted down the chocolate and cream mixture, then cooked through the egg yolks to the perfect silky temperature. After transferring the glossy chocolate mix to a separate bowl, giving the bowl a quick wash, my egg whites were whipped to perfection and all I needed to do was fold them into my lush chocolate mixture. I dolloped the mixture into my cute serving glasses, then they were off to the fridge to chill for a few hours, ready to serve when I needed.

Next up: main course

The main course needed to be something generous, plus I wanted to try something that would surprise people you could prepare in the Thermomix. I didn’t expect to find a lasagne recipe in the Cookidoo app, which looked generous and hearty. When I realised the Thermomix would take the stress out of making a bechamel sauce, I was sold.

One of the things that surprised me about this recipe was how much bolognese mixture the mixing bowl was able to cook. The bowl looks small but holds a significant capacity. The TM7 took care of everything, from blitzing up my parmesan cheese (no more endless grating on a microplane), to chopping and sautéing the veg, then simmering down the mince mixture to make bolognese. I had my Cookidoo app linked to the machine, so I was able to easily see how long was left on each process from my phone when I wasn’t near the machine. Once my bolognese was ready, I just popped it into a separate bowl, cleaned the Thermomix bowl and started on the bechamel.

I love lasagne, but I do find bechamel sauce a bit of a pain to cook. I was blown away to discover I could just pop all my ingredients in and the TM7 would deliver me a delicious, silky bechamel; no stirring or adjusting temperature needed. Then all I had to do was arrange my layers in the baking dish, load it up with my pre-grated parmesan from earlier and pop in the oven.

Usually after making lasagne, I turn around and see a sink full of pots and I question if it was all worth it. This time there was just one bowl I was able to easily clean, with the help of the Thermomix pre-clean function.

What to drink

Every good dinner party needs a fun drink to serve when guests arrive. I chose the mango daiquiri now that this delicious fruit is in season. The texture was perfect and I couldn’t believe how easy it was to put together.

Final verdict of the Thermomix TM7

At first, I’ll admit I was a little daunted by the Thermomix and all it could do. Even after the demonstration with the wonderful Thermomix consultant, my brain was whirring with all the possibilities and I wasn’t quite sure where to start. So, I spent a few days getting to know the Cookidoo app on my train rides to and from work. For anyone new to this style of cooking, the app is an absolute game-changer, helping you see just how much is possible with the machine. The more I explored, the more confident (and excited) I became about what to make next.

The machine itself is sleek and beautifully built, and the guided recipes make the cooking process surprisingly easy to follow. From whipping up a mango daiquiri to simmering a lasagne bolognese and even creating a silky chocolate mousse, I quickly realised just how versatile this machine really is.
