Our hair can withstand a lot of stress. It’s dyed, straightened, bleached, styled, brushed and inundated with haircare product, and yet it kicks on. However. Over-washing your hair can be bad for it and cause damage.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell if you’re washing your hair too much, so we’ve compiled a handy little list of tell-tale signs that may suggest you’re washing a little too often.
1. Your brush doesn’t slide through your hair smoothly
When hair is washed the cuticles are opened which can make the hair dry and brittle, and if this has happened, then it’s likely that your brush is getting caught in tangles more often.
2. Your colour fades quickly
For those who dye their hair, colour that fades a little quicker than you would like it to can suggest you’re over-washing your hair.
3. A flaky scalp
Dandruff or a flaky scalp means you’re drying out your hair with too much shampoo.
4. Greasy hair
Washing your hair too often can strip the natural oils from your scalp. Your body will naturally start to try and counter this by producing more oil than it normally would, leading to oily hair.
5. Frizzy hair
If your hair is stripped of good oils and moisture it can go frizzy. So if you’re perplexed as to why you’ve started suffering from frizz when the weather isn’t the culprit, over-washing most likely is.
