Looking for a way to cut back on your spending? There’s one thing you might not have considered.
In the latest episode of the ABC’s podcast The Pineapple Project, host Clare Hooper spruiks “another genius way to save” money.
While the idea might sound easier said than done, making an effort to “buy nothing new” could be the answer needed to trim your budget.
Speaking to Clare, Tamara DiMattina, the founder of Buy Nothing New Month, said: “When you’re not spending money on the stuff you don’t need, you’ve got money for the things that you do need.”
In a previous interview with the Daily Mail, Tamara said they trick is changing your approach to shopping.
“Look for good quality, get to know what a nice fabric is,” she said, adding, “One of the most important things you can do is spend some time looking for the best op shop in your town.
“The other thing is coming down to ‘do I really need this.'”
But what about underwear? Should we be purchasing this essential item second hand?
“I happily will buy undies and bras from an op-shop if they’ve got their tags on and you’ll often find brand new stuff in an op-shop,” Tamara told The Pineapple Project. “But I wouldn’t buy second-hand undies, of course, but that’s one thing with Buy Nothing New Month, we say with the exception of essentials.”
Although Buy Nothing New Month officially kicks off in October, there’s nothing stopping you from trying it right now.
