And for some, this means putting your Christmas tree up early.

In fact, people who put up Christmas decorations early are happier.

“CHRISTMAS TREE IS UP!”

Taking to the Kmart Inspired Homes Facebook page, one mum put her tree up in September, and we’re here for it.

“CHRISTMAS TREE IS UP!” She adds, “My Christmas tree theme for each year depends on what bargains I got from Christmas clearance decors last year!”

Many people in the group have praised the mum for her beautiful tree, saying they want to put theirs up too.

“Looks beautiful. I’m so tempted to put mine up too. Trying hard to at least wait until after Halloween, but I don’t know if I can,” said one commenter.

Another added: “I have also been wanting to put up my tree, but I am holding off because I know once it’s up, the next three months will drag on forever. But let people do them!”

Why families are putting their trees up early

Shane Carter, BIG W’s Head of Commercial, says they have seen an increase in shoppers wanting to get their Christmas trees earlier this year.

“For many Aussies, this is the first Christmas in the last few years that the whole family can come together for the holiday period,” says Shane.

“Putting up the Christmas tree is widely recognised as a family tradition, and we believe families are getting into the Christmas spirit earlier to make the most of the festive season and spending much-needed time together.”

Another trend Shane has noticed is families being more aware of their impact on the environment. That’s why Big W and Woolworths are going glitter-free this Christmas, making 100% of their Own Brand Christmas ranges free from glitter.

What is the correct date to put your Christmas tree up?

While many people wait until around December 1 to put their Christmas tree up, some choose the beginning of Advent, which begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, to dust off their decorations.

But for others, the only rules worth following are the ones you’ve made with your family.

Speaking to The Age, Monash University Professor Gary Bouma, a sociologist on religious diversity, says families tend to stick with what they know when putting up their Christmas tree.

“It is what you grew up with, but for some of us, it is also when you have the time to throw the thing up.”

And we couldn’t agree more!
