There’s no denying that having a clean house has its benefits, but why does it have to be so hard?
Some cleaning tasks are harder than others. So when we asked the BHG audience about the cleaning task, they always put it off until the last minute; there was a clear winner.
The oven was mentioned by far the most often with multiple exclamation marks. The shower came a close second, especially shower screens and drains.
“Oven, that’s why I’m getting a new one haha,” one person wrote, while another simply declared, “The oven, of course lol.”
Of course, not everyone could narrow it down to just one job. For some, the answer was far simpler: all of it.
“The whole house, haha,” one commenter joked, while another admitted, “Anything that involves cleaning”. Others didn’t hold back either, declaring, “All cleaning!!!!”

The easiest way to clean your oven
Over the years, we’ve tried many cleaning products on our oven, including KOH, baking soda, vinegar, and lemon. While these natural products can work, they require a bit of elbow grease.
If you’re looking for an easy way to clean your oven, the OzKleen Oven Power Kit, especially with the oven bag, is a great option.
Simply place your oven racks inside the provided bag with the cleaning solution and leave it to work its magic — no scrubbing required. The remaining solution can then be used to clean the oven interior, making the entire process far less labour-intensive.
What’s OzKleen Oven Power Kit made out of
According to the packaging, the OzKleen Oven Power Cleaner contains sodium hydroxide, surfactants, stabilisers, and water. Sodium hydroxide is a powerful grease-busting agent commonly used in oven and drain cleaners, but it is corrosive.
As long as you follow the instructions—wear gloves, avoid contact with skin or eyes, and keep it out of reach of children and pets—it’s safe to use.
The easiest way to clean your shower
There are countless ways to clean a shower — and if you’ve found one that works for you, stick with it.
Personally, I like to sprinkle a bit of Bon Ami onto damp surfaces and give them a good scrub before finishing with a disinfectant. Bon Ami also works great on your kitchen sink.
If mould is an issue, 30 Seconds Shower Cleaner from Bunnings, followed by a spritz of CLR on the screen, can be effective. Let the product soak before scrubbing for best results.
Another surprisingly popular tip is using Aldi’s Di San pre-wash stain remover–degreaser with a cleaning eraser from Kmart to tackle stubborn shower screens.

How to clean shower grout (without scrubbing for hours)
If shower cleaning is a pain point, grout is often the worst part.
Because grout is porous, it easily traps dirt, soap scum, and moisture, making it a prime spot for staining and mould growth.
The good news? It doesn’t have to be a back-breaking job.
- For light grime: mix bicarbonate of soda with a small amount of water to form a paste. Apply to grout lines with a toothbrush, spray with vinegar, and let the fizz lift dirt before scrubbing and rinsing.
- For regular maintenance: steam cleaning is a chemical-free option that lifts dirt and sanitises simultaneously.
- For stubborn mould: Hydrogen peroxide can help break down stains. Spray, let sit, then scrub and rinse. If grout is permanently discoloured, a grout pen can refresh the look without regrouting.
- To prevent build-up: use a squeegee after each shower and reduce moisture where possible.
