Duration: 20 minutes

  1. Empty the drip tray and the capsule container.
  2. Fill the water tank with 1 unit of Nespresso descaling liquid and add 500 ml of water.
  3. Turn the machine on by pressing the button. Blinking lights indicates the machine is heating up. When the light is steady, the machine is ready.
  4. Open the machine head and let the capsule be ejected. Reclose the machine and leave the lever in the “UNLOCKED” position, towards the front of the machine.
  5. To enter the descaling mode, hold the button for at least 7 seconds.
  6. The button will start blinking rapidly. You now have 45 seconds to enter descaling mode by following the next steps, otherwise the machine will return to the ready for brewing coffee mode.
  7. Lock the machine by turning the lever left to the lock symbol and unlock by turning right. Hold the button for at least 7 seconds in the “UNLOCKED” position.
  8. Place a container that can hold 1L of liquid under the coffee outlet.
  9. To start descaling, lock the machine by turning the lever left to the locked symbol and push on the button. The machine will stop automatically when the first phase of descaling is completed.
  10. Empty and rinse the water tank, drip tray and cup support thoroughly.
  11. Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water.
  12. When ready, push the button to rinse the machine. Machine will stop automatically when complete.
  13. The button will stop blinking rapidly and become steady. Descaling is now completed. Allow the machine to dry for 10 minutes before using it.

To note:

If the machine is plugged out during descaling, it will start up again once plugged in. You will then have to descale and rinse your machine.

How often should I descale my machine?

This depends on how often you use the machine, water hardness and how much lime scale builds up. However, the general rule of thumb is every 300 cups of coffee. Best practice is to follow the alert or to check the status through the app.

Why do I need to descale my Nespresso machine?

The descaling solution helps cleanse the machine or any ground coffee build up.
