The 52 week savings challenge is simple and easy, and will see you pocketing $1378 at the end of it.

The idea is you save the same amount of money as the week of the challenge you are in. For example, week one you would save $1, week five you would save $5, week 10 you would save $10 and week 52 you would save $52.

Revisit the concept of a swear jar. Or a bad habits jar.

If you, your partner or kids have some bad habits such as swearing, nail-biting or forgetting to make the bed, put together a bad-habits jar and penalise them $1 for every offense. Not only will this break bad habits quick, but you can allocate a jar to each family member and once they hit the one-month mark of breaking the bad habit, they’ll have a little sum of money to go shopping with or put towards something special.
